Vestas receives 56MW Italian deal
Vestas has secured a deal from Tozzi-owned TRE&Partners to supply 56MW for a project in Apulia.
The Castellaneta project will use 28 V90 2MW turbines, which will be installed in the second quarter with the aim of coming online by the end of the year. The deal includes a 12-year service agreement.
The last year, TRE&Partners awarded Repower Systems a contract for 18 2.05MW turbines to be used on TRE's Daunia Savignano wind farm in the southern Italian region of Campania.
Speaking about the Castellaneta deal, Vestas Mediterranean president Juan Araluce said: "The 2MW platform is the industry’s most proven turbine family with more than 9,300 installations worldwide. This means high reliability, low operational downtime and high performance." The company manufacturers V90 blades and nacelles in Tarranto.
The V90 is one of Vestas' biggest sellers. However, research by Bloomberg NEF revealed prices of mid-2000s turbines such as the V90 had fallen considerably over the last year.
BNEF's Wind Turbine Price Index (WTPI) covering 2H 2011, found prices had fallen to €0.91 million, with older models, including the GE 1.5MW, Vestas V90, being particularly badly hit in terms of price falls.
